Alumni Profile: Kyle Orloff (10)

Kyle Orloff has been an alumni from Cathedral Prep for almost 9 years now, as he graduated back in 2010. “They’re not lying when they say time flies,” he said. “It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long since I was walking those halls.”

When asked about his decision to attend Prep, Orloff said it mostly came down to the fact that he had a ton of family members that once went here and he wanted to follow in their footsteps. “I’m forever happy that I decided to go here because it taught me how to become a man in life and I also met some lifelong friends.”

Even now, Orloff is still friends with people from his graduating class, including his best friend Alex Ashton. During his time at Prep, Orloff was a member of the football team for all four years. He also decided to play lacrosse during his senior year. “Football really taught me how to count on my brother next to me, but lacrosse taught me how to be a goon in all the moments of life.”

Prep was a lot different back when he was in school. His favorite class isn’t even offered here anymore. His favorite class was Mandarin. He took the class during his sophomore and junior years with one of his top three favorite teachers, Ms. Wu.

Orloff said his all-time favorite teacher he had at Prep was Mr. Sabol who was the art teacher. He had him as a teacher all of his years for several classes, such as Drawing 1 and 2, and Ceramics 1 and 2.

Nowadays Orloff is a hardworking electrician for Knorr Electric, and couldn’t be happier with his career. Whenever he’s not working his favorite thing to do in his free time is hang out with the boys on Saturdays and play pickup basketball against whoever wants to “get the work.” Orloff said, “Playing b-ball still allows me to stay in shape while doing something that I thoroughly enjoy.”

One thing he wanted to mention was how much he enjoyed the school lunches he used to buy here. He stated, “I wish I could still get some of the beef nachos that they used to make. I really miss those little guys.” There are so many funny and great memories to make at Prep. Kyle took some time to think about his favorite memory before he said, “The funniest thing I ever saw was when someone from the Prep cheering section threw a dead fish in McDowell’s [section] during the Prep-McDowell football game.”

The interview concluded with Orloff saying, “I’m definitely proud to be an alumni of Cathedral Prep and couldn’t have imagined going anywhere else. I will forever feel a part of the CP brotherhood and will always be a Rambler.”
