Staff Profile: Jon Sapienza

Jon Sapienza is a senior at Cathedral Prep who is also a staff writer for The Rambler. Jon has played many sports for Cathedral Prep, including baseball, and track and field, where he throws javelin and shot-put. Jon is athletic; he is also very studious. Jon has been in Advanced Placement courses every year at Prep and is in place to have around 50 college credits before even entering college.

While Jon is a good student and person, his real passion is producing and making his own music.

“I make music because it is fun and because my peers enjoy my music,” he said.

Jon chooses to make hip hop/R&B music.

“I make rap music because I cannot sing, when I wish I could,” he said. Jon also said me he makes “mad cash” from his uploaded music.

Jon was first introduced to rap music when he would listen to 90s music with his father. He was quickly intrigued and began to listen and love other inspirations such as Logic, G-Eazy, and Eminem. Jon also likes the bling that comes along with being an artist.

Jon has quickly become one of the top artists in all of Erie. When asked about his most recent album, Strange! He said that he planned on releasing an album for as long as he can remember.

“My most popular song would definitely be ‘Love Song’ featuring fellow Prep senior Jack Kloecker a.k.a. Pineapple Jack.” Jon has 18,729 views and counting from all of his songs, among all platforms, which equals out to be about 1/5th of the Erie district.

Jon plans to make music throughout college, and wants to improve as he continues to make more music. Jon plans to learn to play the harp as well, seeing as how the harp is so popular today. In the near future Jon has a few more singles he plans to release.

When I asked Jon if I was able to collaborate, or be featured in one of his new songs, he said, “Only if you make me a T-shirt. Then you can hop on a verse.” I quickly made him a T-shirt, but we have not gotten around to the collaboration yet.

A fun fact about Jon is that his real name is actually Caleb, which comes to many people as a surprise. He also plans to change his name to his common name, Jon, on his 18th birthday.
