Senior Sunrise: A Dawn to Remember

The class of 2024 spent a special morning together at Dollinger Field for Senior Sunrise on Thursday, Oct. 5. The event gives seniors the opportunity to have doughnuts and coffee, play games, watch the sunrise, and find out who is on the Homecoming Court. Senior Sunrise, planned by student council, was first introduced to Prep last year, and is now an annual tradition that is pulled together smoothly.

“Because Senior Sunrise is now an established Prep tradition, it was very easy to plan,” student council advisor Ms. Mackensen said, “Caitlin Dugan chaired the event and took on most of the planning.”

Caitlin, a member of the student council executive board, wanted to plan a fun and enjoyable morning for her class.

“The council all worked together to decide on the venue, the posters, and the food served,” Caitlin said.  “We wanted everyone to have a good time and enjoy something special as a senior class.”

Although the event was a bright and early start for many of the seniors, the event was received very well across the board.

“I thought Senior Sunrise was a great way for the senior class to bond as we enter this period of fun festivities coming up,” senior Hayley Dever said. “I had a lot of fun spending time with my classmates outside of our typical classroom interactions.”

Along with the students, the teachers present also thought the morning was a success.

“Senior Sunrise went terrific,” Ms. Mackensen said. “It had an excellent turnout and all the seniors seemed to have a good time.”

As the sun rose, the Homecoming Court was announced. Seniors Lulu Agresti, Kwame Anim-Somuah, Callie Cacchione, Luke Costello, Dianna Cook, Dan Oblich, Cooper O’Camb, Anna Sitter, Tori Spearman, and Darhyl Thomas were all awarded Burger King crowns and the chance to win Homecoming king and queen.

“I love how we incorporated the tradition of announcing the court with Senior Sunrise,” Ms. Mackensen said, “and I’m glad the morning has become an annual tradition.”

After all of the work student council put into the event, Caitlin was extremely happy with how it turned out.

“I hope everyone had a good time,” Caitlin said, “and I hope the seniors enjoyed the sunrise with their peers.”
