Senior Scot Galloway took home the overall beard title in the school’s Beat Baltzer’s Beard Competition, a fundraiser event where students competed against social studies tesacher Mr. Baltzer for the best beard in the school. The event had many winning categories, but the most important one was best overall beard.
Scot said he entered the competition not expecting anything to come of it.
“I just did it for fun,” he said.
As the competition went on, he mentioned that maintaining the beard got more difficult.
“I was tempted to shave at the end because it got too long, and it made me look older,” Scott said.
Despite several students participating, Scott said the competition was not as close as he thought it would be.
“There wasn’t really much competition,” Scott said, adding that this was the longest he had ever grown his facial hair. “It was a way for me to see how long my facial hair could grow since I never really grew it out before.”
Scot said some of the closest competitors were Tucker Polatas and Joey B, but Joey accidentally shaved before the end of the competition.
Scot said he was confident in the outcome from the beginning.
“I already knew I was going to win because the other people who participated couldn’t really grow a beard like I could,” he said.
Scot won the category “Best Overall Beard” and took down Mr. Baltzer’s beard, and he received a $50 Amazon gift card for his achievement.
