This week the staff wrote about their favorite moments from the 2026 Winter Olympics.

I did not watch the 2026 Winter Olympics, but from the highlights I have seen, Alysa Liu’s skating performance became my favorite part of it. Seeing her happiness radiate off of her, complimented by her style, really enhanced the performance and made it a memorable one. I recently read an article about her desire to get back into skating after taking a break to pursue other passions, which makes her performance feel as if she is personally welcoming herself back onto the rink.

My favorite part was the hockey. The women were undefeated and had an insane feat of scoring 5 goals in every game but one or two. They ended up winning in overtime with Morgan Heller scoring. Then, the men’s team beat Canada in overtime for gold as well with a goal by Jack Hughes. Both teams went home with gold in overtime wins versus Canada. It was exciting to see a best on best tournament for the first time in a few years.

My favorite part was watching the hockey. I think it’s the most exciting game in the Olympics, especially because of how fast-paced it is. It’s also gets even more exciting to watch when the players are body checking because if you make a player mad enough they will start a fight. It was also my favorite part because America beat Canada, so it was nice to see all the American players celebrating. It was also crazy to see one of the players losing part of their front tooth.

My favorite part of this 2026 Olympics was watching the USA men’s hockey teams win gold. I watched the first part of the first period on my phone, but had to go to church. I got out in time to watch the last ten minutes of the third period and see Jack Hughes score the overtime winner. Considering it’s the first gold the U.S. has won in my lifetime, it was special. My father was 8 when the U.S. won at Lake Placid. He, his father, and his older brother were in Canada for a hockey tournament, and when they got to their hotel everyone was gathered around the TV in the lobby watching it. They celebrated with a bunch of strangers when the USA won. To see them win in person was really cool.
