Cathedral Preparatory School’s hallways were anything but quiet this St. Patrick’s Day as students participated in the Saint Patrick’s Day Showdown, a fast-paced competition built around rock, paper, scissors.
From the first bell to the beginning of ninth period, the halls were filled with energy. Students challenged one another, often shouting “Right here, right now!” before jumping into a match. Within seconds, the results were decided, followed by loud reactions. Winners proudly said “Hand it over!” as they collected necklaces, while losers responded with “Aww man!” or “C’mon, bro!” These repeated exclamations of victory and defeat echoed throughout the building, creating a lively and competitive atmosphere.
Most of the student body participated, making the showdown one of the most engaging events of the year. Students wore their necklaces throughout the day, with some accumulating large collections in hopes of becoming top contenders. Rivalries formed as players searched for new opponents, determined to increase their totals. However, not everyone joined in. Some students chose to opt out, responding to challenges with, “We do not want to play” or “We have more important things to do,” preferring to focus on academics or simply observe the excitement.
As the competition intensified, attention shifted to those who had collected the most necklaces. By ninth period, those with fifty or more necklaces advanced to a final showdown, where Mason Chatt emerged as the champion. His strong performance earned him the top prize: a fifty dollar Sheetz gift card, along with bragging rights among his peers.
