On Friday, Oct. 5, the Cathedral Prep Ramblers faced off against their arch rivals, the McDowell Trojans. Erie Veterans Stadium was filled with over 3,000 fans ready to cheer on their teams. Both teams came into this game with a record of 4-2 with hopes of gaining another win.
Kickoff happened at around 7 p.m., and the Ramblers soon took charge. Prep’s first touchdown of the game came on their first offensive play of the game. Joey Scarabino snagged a pass from Colin Johnson and took it 77 yards to the house. After the opening score, Prep just continued to poor it on. At the end of the first quarter Prep led 14-0.
Midway through the second quarter the Trojans were driving down the field, but their drive ended when junior Jaheim Howard picked off a Trojan pass in the end zone. The Trojans later in the quarter made an interception that gave them the ball on their own 1 yard line, but they prevented the Ramblers from scoring again. At the half Cathedral Prep had a comfortable 17-0 lead.
Darius Williams made some stellar plays in the third quarter to help put the game out of reach. He had an excellent punt return and then soon caught a 37-yard touchdown pass to make the score 24-0. Then Darius Williams came back again with another great punt return, which led to a 1 yard rushing touchdown from Billy Lucas. With the end of the third quarter approaching the Ramblers still weren’t done pouring it on. Joey Scarabino made a one-handed touchdown catch in the end zone to put the Ramblers up 38-0.
The fourth quarter soon started and was played with a running clock. The Ramblers ended up defeating their rivals 45-6 and extended their win streak against McDowell to 7 straight seasons.
Senior wide receiver, Skylar Neely summed up Prep’s performance by saying, “We all played our game and it worked out in our favor, which shows on the scoreboard.”
