The Prep community celebrated Halloween with many Student Council-sponsored activities. The activities included a $3 dress down, a trick-or-treat parade, and a costume contest.
Students and faculty were able to either dress down for $3 (these funds were collected to support Emmaus Ministries and GECAC) or dress up. If they chose to dress up, students and faculty could submit an image of their costumes to Ms. Mackensen via email to enter the costume contest.
The costume contest features costumes that fall into a number of different categories. Students and faculty review each submission and vote for the costume they believe best represents each category via Forms. The winners of each category receive prizes, such as candy and gift cards.
The categories for this year’s costume contest were as follows: Best Individual Costume, Best Duo Costume, and Best Group Costume.
The winners of the costume contest were as follows: Joel Nunez for Best Individual Costume, Jack Louie and Nolan Sullivan for Best Duo Costume, and Michael Thompson, Matt Oblich, Connor Laird, and Matt Boam for Best Group Costume.

Marketing Teacher Mr. Puskar decided to enter the costume contest for Best Individual Costume.
“There is nothing better than dressing up with the rest of the students and showing off a bit humor or inspiration for a great costume,” Mr. Puskar wrote.
Mr. Puskar dressed up as Slash, a guitarist from the band Guns N’ Roses.
“Ten years ago, I dressed up as Slash for a Halloween dance held at Rainbow Gardens,” Mr. Puskar wrote. “The theme was the 80s, and my siblings and I pulled out all the stops. I figured why not bring back Slash for school this year? It’s an easy costume to dress up in, and it makes people look twice.”

Mr. Puskar enjoyed seeing students and faculty in costume, as well as the students from MTA during the Trick or Treat Parade.
”[Seeing the MTA students in costume] remind[ed] me of my youth while at St. Boniface and the thrill of celebrating Halloween with my friends,” Mr. Puskar wrote.
Physics Teacher Ms. Kuntz and Science Teacher Mrs. Deau decided to enter the costume contest for Best Duo Costume.
”We figured there would not be many team entries and thought it would be a good category to join,” Ms. Kuntz wrote.
Ms. Kuntz dressed up as a pun that referenced Spice Girls, a girl band from the 1990s, while Mrs. Deau dressed up as a pun that referenced a copy cat.
”People had to think about what they saw and figure out who I [and Mrs. Deau were] instead of dressing up directly in an obvious way as the person,” Ms. Kuntz wrote.

Ms. Kuntz enjoyed the Halloween theme that the Costume Dress Down added to the day and enjoyed seeing other students and faculty in costume.
”Anyone can put on a Prep shirt, but you have to draw from your creative mind to design and source a costume that people are able to understand,” Ms. Kuntz wrote.
