On Friday, March 28, the Cathedral Prep Women’s Lacrosse team played in their first home game against Meadville High-School. The final score was 17-4, a win for the Ramblers.
Throughout this game, the Ramblers worked hard using teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. Senior Niagara Millen scored 8 goals while Gigi Hiner, Azlyn Miller, and Sarah Snell, all sophomores, scored the remainder.
In this game especially, good sportsmanship was a necessity for the Ramblers.
“In the first two quarters, we weren’t really giving them a fair chance,” Head Coach Christine Matson said.”We were constantly shooting on them. I decided to try and get the girls to slow it down a little so that Meadville could have some time on offense.”
Though it feels good to have more goals, it feels horrible to be on the other side. Many athletes have felt disappointment or discouraged when they are being continuously scored on.
“We’ve been there,” Coach Matson said. “We have had teams score on us constantly, even after changing strategies. It’s not a good feeling.”
That being said, Coach Matson didn’t want to slow the game down solely for the other team. She wanted her offensive players to take a break and her defensive players to get some playing time, too.
“I felt like defense was getting frustrated not getting much playing time, and that wasn’t fair to them either,” Coach Matson said. “They want to play. Overall, I am really proud of the girls teamwork tonight. I think we will have a good season ahead if we continue playing hard.”
With further teamwork, growth, and sportsmanship, this win may have set up the Ramblers for a good season.
