Cathedral Prep recently celebrated the many students that have excelled in academics and demonstrated their ongoing commitment to learning and growing over the course of this this quarter. It highlighted Cathedral Prep’s focus on achieving excellence, having strong moral character, and developing personally.
Cathedral Prep’s quarter sessions began by celebrating all students who receive First Honors (all A’s), Second Honors (all A’s and B’s), and additional recognition is provided to students who achieve high Quality Point Averages. All recipients received awards to show that their commitment and efforts are recognized as significant contributions to the Cathedral Prep community.
This quarter was extra special for the freshman class. 50% of freshmen received honors. Principal Seip expressed her enthusiasm and congratulations to the freshmen for their hard work.
In addition to the recognition of honorees, the third-quarter Men & Woman of Prep were announced. One male and one female student from each grade level were chosen based on their display of character, leadership, and embodying Prep values. Junior Riley Washko was among those chosen.
“My family was very proud of me,” Riley said. “And I was proud of myself.”
The guest speaker for the evening was Adrienne Kloecker ’12 who attended Villa Maria Academy. She spoke to the students about perseverance, hard work, and the importance of staying focused on what you want to accomplish regardless of if anyone else is paying attention or not. She recalled a difficult period during her freshman year when she wanted desperately to be on the varsity basketball team, but did not get accepted. She worked incredibly hard to improve herself and ultimately made it onto the team. However, instead of getting to play much in her first year on varsity; she mostly sat on the bench. Instead of allowing that experience to discourage her; she allowed it to motivate her to continue working to improve herself so that she could earn a starting position. This experience showed the qualities of perseverance and determination and motivated the students to stay dedicated and try their hardest every time they compete or participate in anything.
The Honors Assembly concluded with words from Cathedral Prep President Kevin Smith. He complimented the students for their successes and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence as the rest of the year starts to come to a close.
