The first quarter honor roll for the 2025-2026 school year was recently released, and it’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Cathedral Prep student body. With hundreds of names making the list across all grades, it’s clear that Prep students are starting the year strong and setting the bar high.
The freshmen had a strong showing. The group kicked things off impressively, with 32 students earning First Honors and 71 landing on Second Honors. A total of 103 freshmen were recognized for their efforts. Topping the class with the highest QPAs were Dante Mangun and Paul Tran, who tied for the spot.
The sophomore class continued their strong academic performance from the previous year. Eighteen made First Honors, while 62 earned Second Honors, adding up to 80 students overall. However, what really stood out here was the crowded field for highest QPA. Ten students shared the honor: William Agresti, Michael Brown, Sophia Becker, James Cullen, Rachel Kim, Raymond Miller, Charbel Moubarak, Maximus Santillan, Zita Schiedel, and Robert Seelinger.
The junior class also had a successful first quarter, with 16 on First Honors and a whopping 73 on Second Honors, for a total of 89. Unlike the rather crowded race for top QPA in the sophomore class, the top QPA in the junior class was claimed by Colette Speros
Finally, the seniors wrapped up the list. Seven earned First Honors, and 54 made Second Honors, totaling 61. The highest QPAs went to Ely Cooney, Mackenzie Prather, and Isabella Speros.
Beyond the grades, the Men and Women of Prep awards were also handed out at Quarter Sessions. These honors go to students who embody the spirit of the school through leadership, character, and involvement. For freshmen, it was Mia Washburn and Cameron Friedrichsmeyer. Sophmores Anasia Tarver and Samuel Kanzel were recognized. So were juniors Amani Hackney and Nathan Hanel, and seniors Amanda Dong and Caden Clark.
The first Quarter Sessions assembly ended with a speech from head men’s basketball coach, Jeremy Lynch. Lynch, who just started his tenure leading the Ramblers in 2023, returned to Prep after stints in college coaching at Penn State Behrend and Chowan University. Before that, he coached Prep’s JV team and even got his start as a student assistant for the women’s program at his alma mater, Edinboro University. Under his watch there, they snagged the 2018 PSAC tournament title and made it to the second round of the DII NCAA tournament.
As a former Rambler himself, Lynch played varsity from 2011 to 2013, helping those teams reach the state final four and quarterfinals in consecutive years. He continued his career, playing collegiate basketball at Edinboro University.
In his talk, Lynch spoke about what he believes makes Cathedral Prep an excellent academic, athletic, and community institution. He emphasized the school’s tight-knit community where lifelong connections are made. He shared stories from his own time here, urging students to grab every opportunity, whether in the classroom, on the court, or in extracurriculars.
